An OSINT Approach to Automated Asset Discovery and Monitoring

The main objective of this thesis is to improve the efficiency of security operations centersthrough the articulation of different publicly open sources of security related feeds. This ischallenging because of the different abstraction models of the feeds that need to be madecompatible, of the range of control values that each data source can have and that will impactthe security events, and of the scalability of computational and networking resources that arerequired to collect security events.Following the industry standards proposed by the literature (OSCP guide, PTES andOWASP), the detection of hosts and sub-domains using an articulation of several sources isregarded as the first interaction in an engagement. This first interaction often misses somesources that could allow the disclosure of more assets. This became important since networkshave scaled up to the cloud, where IP address range is not owned by the company, andimportant applications are often shared within the same IP, like the example of Virtual Hoststo host several application in the same server. We will focus on the first step of any engagement, the enumeration of the target network.Attackers often use several techniques to enumerate the target to discover vulnerable services. This enumeration could be improved by the addition of several other sources and techniquesthat are often left aside from the literature. Also, by creating an automated process it ispossible for security operation centers to discover these assets and map the applicationsin use to keep track of said vulnerabilities using OSINT techniques and publicly availablesolutions, before the attackers try to exploit the service. This gives a vision of the Internetfacing services often seen by attackers without querying the service directly evading thereforedetection. This research is in frame with the complete engagement process and should beintegrate in already built solutions, therefore the results should be able to connect to additionalapplications in order to reach forward in the engagement process.By addressing these challenges we expect to come in great aid of sysadmin and securityteams, helping them with the task of securing their assets and ensuring security cleanlinessof the enterprise resulting in a better policy compliance without ever connecting to the clienthosts

Metallogenetic potencial of the Paleoproterozoic mafic-ultramafic Hamutenha intrusion (SW Angola). New data from PLANAGEO project [Abstract]

ABSTRACT: In the SW sector of the Angolan shield occur the Kunene Anorthositic Complex (KAC), one of the most remarkable magmatic anorthositic suites worldwide. The KAC is considered a long-lived magmatic system that operated in the area intermittently during the Mesoproterozoic (1450 ± 2 Ma to 1371 ± 2.5 Ma). Smaller mafic-ultramafic intrusive bodies ranging in composition from dunite to harzbugite, pyroxenite, troctolite and gabbro are located in the KAC periphery (e.g. Epupa, Ombuku, Hamutenha, Oncócua). The Hamutenha body is a 3 km long oriented NW-SE, banded intrusion with internal zonation hosted in the Paleoproterozoic granitic rocks (1970 ± 2 Ma). The internal zone is composed by rocks with ultramafic nature, mostly harzburgites and dunites with diorites in the external zone.N/

New insights on the ultramafic intrusions surrounding the Kunene Anorthosite Complex (SW Angola) from gravity, magnetic and radiometric data [Abstract]

ABSTRACT: The Kunene Anorthosite Complex (KAC), located in SW Angola, is one of the largest anorthosite structures in the world. Dating from the Mesoproterozoic, its installation process is still not clear. Several mafic and ultramafic outcrops can be found surrounding the KAC. Once considered related with its emplacement, the study of these bodies may help us understand the history of this unique geological feature. While geochronological data show that they are synchronous, or possibly a bit younger, than the embedding granites and migmatites of Paleoproterozoic age, the question arises of whether they are intrusions installed in the host rock or if they are instead recycled remains of older Arch crust. The development of these outcrops in depth provides relevant clues regarding the origin of these bodies and their relationship with the Eburnean (~1.93-2.04 Ga) and Epupa-Namibe (~1.83-1.74 Ga) events. One of these mafic outcrops, designated the Hamutenha outcrop (Huíla Province) exhibits an elongated shape and a NW-SE orientation and is characterized by an internal zonation. Generally, the innermost part is composed of ultramafic rocks of (mostly harzburgites and dunites), with diorites outcropping in its NW and SE borders. The Hamutenha outcrop was previously identified for potentially bearing Cr, Ni and PGE mineralization.N/

    Invasive Species in the Amazon

    Get PDF
One of the main reasons for environmental disturbances such as declination in pasture productivity and biodiversity losses is the high infestation of herbaceous weeds, generally referred to as “Juquira” in the Amazon region. If they are not adequately controlled, such infestation might lead to degradation of pasture, resulting in complete loss of productivity and subsequent abandonment of the area. In this sense, this chapter aims to describe the main invasive species present in the Amazon region, as well as to characterize both the old and innovative techniques of use in agriculture, in large and small scale, for the control of agricultural pests

Predictors of rescue percutaneous coronary intervention after pharmacoinvasive strategy in women

AbstractBackgroundPharmacoinvasive therapy (PIT) is feasible in patients with acute myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation (STEMI) when timely primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is unavailable. In this study, we compared women who underwent successful reperfusion PIT with those who required rescue PCI, to identify potential predictors of thrombolytic failure.MethodsFrom January 2010 to November 2014, 327 consecutive women with STEMI were referred to a tertiary hospital, 206 after successful thrombolysis (63%) and 121 who required rescue PCI. The groups were compared regarding demographic, clinical and angiographic outcomes, and clinical (TIMI, GRACE, and ZWOLLE CADILLAC) and bleeding (CRUSADE) risk scores. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify predictors of thrombolytic failure.ResultsThere was no significant difference between the demographic characteristics or the medical history of the groups. Rescue PCI group had significantly higher values of the evaluated scores. Clinical hospital complications and mortality (2.5% vs. 22.0%; p < 0.0001) were more frequent in rescue PCI group. The independent variables associated with rescue PCI were pain-to-needle time > 3h (OR: 3.07, 95%CI: 1.64 to 5.75; p < 0.0001), ZWOLLE score (OR: 1.25; 95%CI: 1.14 to 1.37; p = 0.0001) and creatinine clearance (OR: 1.009, 95%CI: 1.0 to 1.02; p = 0.04).ConclusionsWomen with STEMI who underwent PIT and who required rescue PCI had significantly higher mortality compared to those who achieved initial success of PIT with elective PCI. Pain-to-needle time > 3h, ZWOLLE score and creatinine clearance were independent predictors of the need for rescue PCI

Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
